5 dangers of visiting unregulated cosmetics clinics

The government is cracking down on unregulated cosmetics clinics

Since the start of the pandemic, we have seen an unprecedented rise in unregulated cosmetics clinics on the UK high streets, with over 83% of injectables being given by non-medics. Simple online courses are popping up everywhere, providing all the chance to quickly learn how to offer injectables to the public. Often, these courses are a maximum of one day, with many only being a couple of hours until you are deemed ‘qualified’. Unfortunately, the beauty industry is largely unregulated, which often leads to severe complications for clients who suffer negligence at the hands of an unregulated practice. The UK Government announced in February 2022 that it would be cracking down on unregulated beauty clinics.

Health Secretary Sajid Javid commented on the new regulation:

“While most of those in the aesthetics industry follow good practice when it comes to patient safety, far too many people have been left emotionally and physically scarred after botched cosmetic procedures. I am committed to protecting patient safety by making it an offence for someone to perform these cosmetic procedures without a licence.

We’re doing all we can to protect patients from potential harm, but I urge anyone considering a cosmetic procedure to take the time to think about the impact on both their physical and mental health and ensure they are using a reputable, safe and qualified practitioner.”

Five real risks of visiting unregulated cosmetics clinics for procedures

The main reason why people fall prey to these unregulated clinics is because of their low prices and convenience. At private parties or at a beauty clinic with an unregulated injector, when there is a special offer going on, clients are more likely to participate unknowingly. Many individuals may not realise that the person doing the procedure is not medically trained or licensed. Anti-wrinkle protein is an injection that can only be prescribed by a medical professional. However, it is currently legal for any public member to administer it, regardless of whether they have the proper training and qualifications.

Five risks of being injected by an unregulated cosmetics clinic

  • You could be injected into the wrong area
  • If you are injected into an artery, this could result in blockages and skin tissue death
  • Your face may be left uneven
  • You have a higher risk of infection, bleeding or an allergic reaction
  • You will have to pay more to get your injectables reversed

If you have visited an unregulated practice and you are facing one or more of the above risks, we understand this is likely to be an incredibly stressful and upsetting time for you. At Imperial Aesthetics, we pride ourselves on supporting first-time clinic visitors and those who have had a terrible previous experience and need support to put things right. We are specialists in the reversal of treatments, and after reviewing your concerns, we will advise the best treatment plan for you moving forwards.

The benefits of safe and regulated practices

If you are looking to enhance your features and appearance cosmetically, for whatever reason, we would always recommend visiting a qualified clinic. Not only will you benefit from a highly professional and experienced team, but you will be in safe hands that are using only the highest quality of medical grade products during your treatment process.

Qualified medical professionals

By visiting a qualified cosmetics practice, you will be safe in the knowledge that the Aesthetics doctor carrying out your treatment will have the necessary qualifications and training to complete your treatment safely and effectively. You will be able to achieve the look you desire in safe hands.

High-grade quality products

Medical professionals understand the risks involved with using unlicensed products bought off the internet, and that’s why they will only purchase their products, like Botox, through a reputable supplier who supplies products across the industry.

Insurance for your peace of mind

Your regulated practice will have the necessary insurance to provide the treatments they offer. The risk you take with walking into a standard beauty clinic that provides injectables is that they may not have the proper insurance to cover your treatment.

Understanding of enhancing your features

Your medical professional has trained for many years to understand your features, where your arteries and nerves run and how to enhance features using regulated treatments. They will be able to offer the best services to give you a look you want without over-dramatising your beauty or putting you in danger.
