Botox Benefits – Going Beyond Aesthetics

Anti-wrinkle injections are designed to leave clients looking younger and feeling their most confident. However, the substance used within them, Botulinum toxin, commonly referred to by the product name Botox®, does not only make for a safe and effective beauty treatment, it also has numerous medical benefits.

What Is Botox®?

All of our movements are dependent upon our nerves sending electrical signals to our muscles. Botox® blocks these signals, thereby relaxing the muscles, which is how it corrects fine lines and wrinkles.

Coming from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum, Botox® has been used for decades and boasts incredible results. Unfortunately, due to its well-deserved success in the cosmetic industry, its medical benefits often go overlooked.

Botox Benefits

If you are one of the large number of individuals who suffer from migraines, or have a loved one who does, you will recognise how poorly understood this phenomena is. There are, however, several peer reviewed articles that conclude that Botox® is a safe and effective treatment

Bruxism refers to the habitual grinding of teeth, which often results in jaw, head and/or earache. Furthermore, this condition can do irreversible damage to the teeth. Botox® can be used to alleviate the pain this causes, as well as to avoid the progression of tooth decay.

Hyperhidrosis is the medical term given to excessive sweating. The production of sweat is a perfectly natural and important bodily function that allows us to regulate our body temperature effectively. However, those suffering from hyperhidrosis over-produce this substance, which sometimes leads to discomfort, embarrassment and low self-esteem. In a similar manner to how Botox® blocks nerve signals, the medical treatment of hyperhidrosis works by ‘turning off’ the sweat glands.

Final Thoughts on Botox Benefits

This blog only discusses a few of the medical applications of Botox®. There are many more.
