When is the right time to think about getting injectables?

What can injectables do for you and your complexion?

When we think of having injectables, traditionally, we have thought of older or middle-aged men and women who are trying to reduce or remove signs of ageing, including wrinkles and fine lines. As times have changed, however, we find men and women of all ages making appointments to enhance and improve their facial features in a way they deem necessary. Injectables are used to relax the muscles and control facial expressions – this is why they are used as an anti-ageing preventative in many younger adults.

To many of us, our faces are the most critical aspect of our bodies. They are the first thing people see, whether we are covered up during winter or dressed for our best when we go out for the evening. It is no wonder that we try to find elements that can enhance our beauty and make us feel better about ourselves. But when is the right time to think about getting fillers or injectables? The honest answer is that there is no right or wrong time, but when you feel it will help to enhance your look and make you feel more beautiful than you already are!

When can you not get injectables?

Whilst many of us may be planning when we are going to get our injectables, not a lot of thought is put into when it may not be an ideal time or when you may be turned away from your injectables appointment. If you are facing any of the following, you may not be able to attend your injectables appointment:

  • You have a skin infection
  • You are feeling generally unwell, or you are sick in any way
  • You have a neuromuscular condition
  • You are taking certain medicines
  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding

How to prepare for your filler appointment

During your consultation with your licensed practitioner, they will advise you of all the dos and donts before and after your appointment. They will also ensure you are entirely comfortable with your course of treatment and that you understand what you are having and how this will affect your complexion. Did you know that if you drink wine (red in particular) before your appointment – up to a week prior – this can increase your chances of bruising post injection? Avoid wine for seven days before attending your meeting.

After your fillers appointment, it may be best to stay away from the gym or your local workout place for up to 24 hours after you have had your injectables. This is because working out will raise your blood pressure, and this can increase your risk of inflammation post-appointment. We also recommend avoiding make-up 24 hours after your appointment as foreign substances on the skin can interact with your injectable site, causing swelling and discomfort. Lastly, your facial cleanser may be too harsh for your skin post-appointment, so avoid using it for 24 hours after your appointment.

Five things you need to know before getting injectables

if you have decided it’s time to book your appointment with Imperial Aesthetics, there are some things you need to know before getting your injectables. Look at our top 5 tips below to learn a little more about what to expect before and after your treatment with us.

Your consultation is important.

Your consultation isn’t just about discussing your treatment plan. It’s about finding a licensed practitioner whom you feel comfortable with. Use this consultation to ask any questions you may have or to alleviate any concerns that spring to mind.

Be mindful of how you are feeling.

If you are not feeling 100% on the day of your appointment, you need to make your practitioner aware of how you are feeling. Don’t attempt to power through, as going through with the work could end up making you feel much worse than you already do. Be sure to speak to your practitioner about any allergies or medical conditions you have to ensure your filler type is right for you.

Don’t expect results to appear right away.

It is essential to understand that injectables and filler are not a quick fix and can take up to a week to make a difference. Don’t expect to get off your treatment bed and right away look at a new face staring back at you! Once you have noticed the difference, though, you will be so proud of your results.

Your injectables are temporary

Depending on the injectable type you have had injected and the natural processes of your body, you will find that your filler is not a permanent fixture. You may enjoy between 3-4 months of a refreshed-looking face before you start to notice those lines start to appear as your injectables start to disintegrate.

Ensure your practitioner is a licensed doctor

Probably our most important tip – before agreeing to any work, ensure your chosen practitioner is a licensed doctor. Since the pandemic, there has been a huge rise in the number of unregulated and unlicensed beauticians providing cosmetic treatments such as filler and injectables. It can be very dangerous to have injectables completed by someone who is not medically trained in the profession.
